BIRMINGHAM BUSINESS ALLIANCE ANNOUNCES 2011 COMMITTEE AND COUNCIL OFFICERS, ROUNDTABLE LEADERSHIP

The diversity of the committees and councils within the BBA is an important part of the Blueprint Birmingham regional strategic plan. Working committees, and the business persons who lead them, bring a unified voice to business interests throughout the seven-county region.

The Birmingham Business Alliance is pleased to announce the leadership for the 2011 BBA Committees, Councils and Roundtable programs.

The diversity of the committees and councils within the BBA is an important part of the Blueprint Birmingham regional strategic plan. Working committees, and the business persons who lead them, bring a unified voice to business interests throughout the seven-county region.

Small Business Council:
Chair – Richard Wallace, Organizational Success Management
Vice Chair – Clement Ebio, RMC Medical Billing, LLC
The Small Business Council is responsible for coordinating efforts to support the growth and development of small businesses throughout the seven-county Birmingham region.

African American Business Council:
Chair – Alicia White, JMA Enterprises
Vice Chair – Kelvin Howard, Thomas, Means, Gillis & Seay, PC
The AABC meets monthly to network, share business information and formulate solutions to business challenges. The council also offers regional business enhancement recommendations to the BBA.

Hispanic Business Council:
Chair – Maria Norena, UAB Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Center
Vice Chair – Juan Mena, BBVA Compass
The HBC assists Hispanic-owned businesses and Hispanic businesspersons through networking and educational activities. It offers a forum for sharing business information and seeks to increase awareness of the growing Hispanic population within the Birmingham region.

Governmental Affairs Committee:
Chair – Michael Davis, Balch & Bingham
The Governmental Affairs Committee develops and advocates for the BBA’s legislative agendas each year. Committee members meet regularly to discuss public policy issues and to bring together public and private leaders around those issues.

Finance and Taxation Committee:
Chair – Brad Sklar, Sirote & Permutt
The Finance and Taxation Committee meets on an as-needed basis to discuss and provide recommendations on tax matters and other financial policy issues to the BBA’s Executive Committee and Board of Directors.

Ambassadors:
Chair – Elise Frey, Snelling Personnel Services
Ambassadors assist in increasing membership retention by making outreach calls to new members and attending BBA events each month. Ambassadors also serve as goodwill representatives, volunteering time to represent and inform members of the opportunities through BBA investments.

BBA Roundtables:
Participants in the BBA Roundtables program include owners of small businesses and top executives who meet monthly to share, in confidence, their business experiences. Meetings are confidential and each group manages its membership. They are open to any BBA member business owner, but participation must be approved due to the confidential nature of discussions.

I have great anticipation for my future in the construction industry. I am thankful for the people in my life that believed in me and my dream, but I am even more thankful for those who left.
