Sustainable development can be defined in many ways. Common definitions include meeting the needs of the world today without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. In financial terms, it means living on income rather than consuming finite capital. In family terms, it means leaving an inheritance to our children.
By its nature, construction has the potential to create negative impacts on the natural environment when not actively managed. Done correctly, it has the potential to have a significant positive impact. Slade sees an opportunity in proactive environmental management.
Slade has been exploring and defining how it can within its direct sphere of influence, contribute to a more sustainable world. We are committed to sustainability practices that spans our entire business process, from our construction practices to our people and everyday actions. Understanding how sustainable design and construction is perceived by the Architect, Engineer, contractor, and Owner (AECO) community is imperative in order to achieve green building. We have a responsibility to our employees, environment, and communities in which we operate.
Slade completed the Green Jobs for Alabama Workforce Program. Slade supports LEED for the benefit of the built environment.-and the preservation of our natural one.
Slade was awarded the Green Finalist Award from the Birmingham Business Journal in 2010.
