L’Tryce Slade, managing partner of Slade Land Use Environmental & Transportation Planning LLC, was elected chair the Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce’s African-American Business Council.

She is the first black woman to spearhead the organization. Slade is replacing Kelly Construction CEO Robert Kelly.

Last year she was named one of the Birmingham Business Journal’s Eight People to Watch in 2008 because of her firm’s work to help revitalize some Western parts of Birmingham.

Slade, who started her firm in 2006, earned her bachelor’s, master’s and law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

I have great anticipation for my future in the construction industry. I am thankful for the people in my life that believed in me and my dream, but I am even more thankful for those who left. If it weren't for them I would not have learned some of the greatest lessons in life and appreciated those who stayed.
